Spiritual Formation Cadre

There are times in our journeys with God when we need a kick start - we recognize a need for a catalytic experience that will propel us forward in our formation as followers of Jesus.  The propulsion does not necessarily need to make the movement fast.  It can indeed be by taking our time, slowing down.  It need not necessarily even be “forward” in the traditional sense.  The catalytic experience might actually take us “backwards” in order to move into the invitations God has for us in our faith formation.  Regardless, the idea is that this catalytic experience will mark us on our journey in such a way that the impact is both momentary and for the long haul - or as Eugene Peterson put it, “the long obedience in the same direction.”

These types of experiences often come to us unannounced: a simple retreat we signed up for as teens to be with our friends that turns out to jump start our faith journey.  A mentoring relationship in college that was “assigned” to us in a class that slowly over time becomes a catalytic force.  A crisis of faith from reading a certain book that plunges us into an intentional season of deconstruction and reconstruction.  The experience of suffering unwanted in the natural realm but necessarily catalytic toward transformation in the spiritual realm.  

But they can also come by intentional choice when we decide on an opportunity that we know will be formative to our relationship with God.  This Spiritual Formation Cadre might just be such a choice.  After six years of leading Enneagram Cadres, we are adding the opportunity for a Spiritual Formation Cadre - a Cadre experience centered on your journey of transformation as an image bearer of God, follower of Jesus Christ, indwelt by the Spirit in community with others, seeking together to become more and more of your true self in Christ.  With a focus on the various ways we experience our journeys with God as well as key ideas, teachings, and practices for cultivating our awareness and engagement with the Divine, the Spiritual Formation Cadre is an opportunity for you to catalyze your relationship with God however God sees fit!  We will create and provide the space; God, we believe, will show up with you and us together as a collective to do whatever is God’s business with you that might or might not be yours or our business to know! 

So What Can You Expect Should You Join Us?

  • Spiritual Formation teaching focused on our understanding of God’s invitation to journey toward transformation as well as key elements in our formation that are part of the various ways we experience that journey as humans.

  • Instruction on spiritual practices with invitations to practice together as well as individually.

  • Community reflection - as you are comfortable - to collectively walk together seeing the Divine in one another and finding encouragement through our shared experiences.

  • Individual reflection during the Cadres to engage with God in a retreat-like setting with the content prepared. 

  • Guided reflection to draw together toward God’s invitation of focus in our journeys.

  • Work in between Cadre sessions that will be relevant, practical, and intentional to the experience.  This work will sometimes be reflection exercises, other times readings to move through, and always spiritual practices to engage.

  • Minimal Enneagram content as we prepare this Cadre as one that requires no necessary knowledge of the Enneagram.  It will be referenced at times, but is ancillary to the focus of our time together.
